“I had the immense pleasure of experiencing an outdoor cooking class at Steel Pioneer. David had us split into small groups to collect some kindling and firewood and learn about fire starting techniques. A highlight for me was getting to practice with some of the more primitive techniques (viking striker with flint, so cool!) After helpful guidance on building and tending the cooking fire, we were given ingredients and a recipe for cooking a whole chicken and wild mushroom risotto. It was fun, educational, and a great way to meet new people. Plus the best part was sharing a delicious meal at the end. David provided some homemade sourdough bread and homemade dessert as well. The food was ridiculously good, and I cannot recommend this experience highly enough!”

“We had an amazing time learning the proper way to start a fire and prepare a delicious meal over a fire pit in a beautiful setting. Chef David explained all the procedures and had all ingredients ready, including a spatchcocked chicken and mushroom risotto. Grilled asparagus, fresh tomatoes, and spears of butternut squash rounded out the delicious meal. To top it off, we were served a decadent almond pound cake with peaches and ice cream. We definitely will go back for another class.”
